EU product identifiers become mandatory on import declarations

Any store, Shopify, WooCommerce

Who it affects
Every store outside the EU (UK, US, Canada, Asia) that ships to EU consumers, at any order value.
What changes
Each item in a B2C parcel into the EU must carry an M-PID (your own SKU) and an NS-PID (the manufacturer's or supplier's part number), plus an S-PID (GTIN, EAN, ISBN) where one exists. Customs can reject or hold a declaration without them. The fields have been optional since 1 July 2026.
What to do
Make sure every variant has a unique SKU, a supplier or manufacturer part number, and a valid barcode where the product has one. Shopify has no built-in field for the supplier part number, so most stores have it on zero products.

Shopify public apps must use expiring offline access tokens

Shopify apps

Who it affects
Developers of public Shopify apps still using non-expiring offline tokens. Custom and merchant-created apps are not affected.
What changes
From 1 January 2027 the Admin API returns authentication errors to public apps that still use non-expiring offline access tokens.
What to do
App developers: migrate to expiring tokens with refresh. Merchants: if a small or unmaintained public app matters to your store, ask its developer whether they have migrated.

Shopify stops running script tags on storefronts

Shopify

  • 1 October 2026: new and updated script tags already rejected
Who it affects
Stores running older chat, pop-up, review, currency, heatmap or tracking apps, and any script added through the ScriptTag API. Shopify has published no list of affected apps.
What changes
Since 1 October 2026 apps can no longer create or update script tags, on every API version. On 1 March 2027 Shopify stops injecting existing ones into storefronts, so anything that depends on them silently stops loading.
What to do
List the apps and scripts your storefront loads, ask each vendor whether it uses script tags, and move tracking to web pixels and widgets to app embed blocks before March.

Shopify Stocky shut down

Shopify

Who it affects
Merchants who ran purchase orders, suppliers and stock forecasting in Stocky.
What changes
Stocky stopped working on 31 August 2026 after being removed from the App Store in February.
What to do
If you still have Stocky data you could not export, check whether your new inventory tool offers an import. Shopify now creates transfers from purchase orders natively.

EU 3 EUR customs duty per item category on low-value parcels

Any store

  • Until 1 July 2028: transitional period
Who it affects
Stores outside the EU shipping consignments of 150 EUR or less to EU consumers.
What changes
The 150 EUR duty exemption ended. A flat 3 EUR duty is due per distinct tariff heading in each parcel, so a parcel with three kinds of product owes 9 EUR. Transitional until the EU customs data hub arrives.
What to do
Make sure checkout collects or shows the duty. Shopify handles it natively since late June 2026; WooCommerce stores need a plugin or a carrier that does.
